WHAT GUAGE SPEAKER WIRE IS THE BEST TO USE?
I JUST GOT A NEW PIONEER VSX-454 RECIEVER . I HAVE 2 FISHER 100 WATT/8 OHM SPEAKERS AND 2 HITACHI LOUD SPEAKERS 50 WATT/8 OHM. I LISTEN TO LOUD CLASSIC ROCK BUT I WANT CLAIRITY TOO. I CAN BUY 14, 16, 18, 20, & 22 GUAGE, WHAT WOULD YOU RECOMMEND.
I’d use 18ga if your wire lengths are less than 25 feet and 16ga if they are less than 50 feet. Ordinary zip cord will do just fine. Notice that the insulation will have ribs or printing on one side so that you can tell the two conductors apart without a meter. Use that to get your phasing correct. It doesn’t matter which conductor you designate as “positive” as long as you are consistant. Leave those heavily promoted and rediculously overpriced brand name speaker cables to the “golden eared” boys who have more money than sense.
